Could someone kindly offer an interpretation of the word after Croydon on this snip? I have seen it a couple of times this afternoon and think it might be workhouse related.

That'll be Surrey then :D. I might have been over complicating it, thanks all. These Thomas Marshalls fried my brain yesterday, most of them living in and around Lambeth in the target time seem to have married Marys and died before the 1841. This one didnt but i think he was in the workhouse then. Am abandoning them today.

Yep, had a little dibble - definitely impossible to unravel. The only other clue was at Thomas Marshall senior's marriage to Frances Ann Wall, 1790 Streatham, witnesses were Henry Marshall, Jane Marshall and Frances Wall (her father I think). Off to try to track the children of Thos junior. He lived in one place till death. :D:D:D:D
