Not sure how to proceed.
Sorry, that post was telling Archies Mum how to post a link for you.
Not sure how to proceed to open the link
OK I'll keep on trying. The link she sent just isn't opening.
You need to highlight the link. and copy it
Then past it in a new tab.
Or, in some browsers, when you highlight it and right-click, there is an option to open the link in a new tab/window.
Yep, on my iPad I just clicked and held on the green link in post #11 and hit paste or paste and go. Or maybe just type it all in manually in a new window. What fantastic information - gotta love this forum
A lot has happened since this thread....however Thomas married Sarah Elmes on 9/11/1801 and they had five children, Robert 1803, Charles 1804,Thomas, 1805,Henry 1808, George 1812. They are on the 1841 census just the two of them as the children had all left home. then on 1851 she is called Martha.
The info now running is that Thomas Senior went to join his son George in Oz, arriving 1859 (Oct). That would account for Thomas not being on the 1861 census. But would he have left his wife of 60 years behind? Or, did she die and that was a reason for him to join George in Oz? I have unverified info that Sara Gomm died in 1865 (Dec) Cuddesdon. So if Thomas did up sticks Sarah should still be on 1861 census.
Oh!! just looked up and see that a Sarah Gomm was admitted to an Asylum as "Female Pauper" 24 Feb 1855 and died 2 March 1855.This is a possible connection, for on 1851 census, Thomas was entered as a Pauper.
What do you think?
Many many thanks for all the information in yours and other members posts. I knew of George, his wife and child going to Australia but nothing of the amazing story surrounding Thomas Gomm etc etc. I'll be very busy transferring this new information into my Family History narrative and sharing with others in the family.
You are most welcome but I don’t think you were as excited as I was when I found a convict by the name of Thomas Gomm, native place Wheatley with wife Sarah. I was beside myself. I thought it was the Thomas you were after but was too young. Then I found the information from the friends of Cheltenham Cemetry. So pleased to have been able to help you out.
Good luck with the rest of your research.
I'm busy working through the newsletter. I've looked up The Australasian for 1/7/1871 but couldn't find anything for Gomm. Can you please fill me in on the detail?
Nothing to add, that’s all there was. Just a small 2 line notice in the paper.

Ah, didn’t see the last one. Thanks. I was a bit concerned about fathers Edward And Robert so left it alone.
Thomas, mother Sarah Ellams is the convict then and the 1866 Thomas is the one Vicky was after who died at ripe old age of 96 with wife Sarah Ellams.
