I have been busy trying to find the connection with a probable 3rd or 4th cousin according to our DNA matches. When we first started sharing messages we thought it was through a paternal 2xgr. grandmother's line as we both had the same names on our trees. I have ruled that connection out as BB does not share a match with another person who has my gr. grandmother's sister on their tree. They opened their tree for me and I see they have several family members with the surname Mitchell who came from Keady, Armagh. My Dad always said my gr.grandther came from Armagh. Now to be 3rd or 4th cousins we would likely be sharing 2x or 3x gr. grandparents. My gr. grandfather was Thomas Thompson. According to his marriage registration in Ontario his father was John Thompson and his mother Eleanor( Elenor) Thompson.no maiden name. I am trying to find out if Eleanor was a Mitchell, or maybe her mother was, or John's mother was. Of course all records online don't specify anything..you have to go and look them up, which just isn't possible. I estimate John was born around 1795 +/- 10 years and the same for Eleanor..maybe a little later as Thomas was born around 1837. I don't know how many if any siblings he had so don't know birth order. .My relative's 2xgr.grandfather was Allen Mitchell and he was first generation to come to Canada. Interestingly, 1871 Canadian census has a Sarah Mitchell ( married name) visiting my gr. grandparents. When I trace her I find her husband is Robert. Robert's parents are Thomas and Elizabeth.... Allen's parents are not known, but his first born son was called Isaac. My gr.grandparents' first born was also Isaac, but it is presumed he died as an infant. ( Before recorded records in Canada and only found in family bible that my 2nd cousin has---no mention of death, but he never appears in any censuses. ) Thank you if anyone can help me out connecting these 2 families.
How likely is this DNA stuff to include an adopted child along the line- who may not be known as an adoptee? Also what about little mistakes along the way who were still included in families? Not aimed at yours Sue, but the question has to be out there as people are people & not all were saints. Many reasons for oddities. How does possible blood transfusions work in these cases? Apologies for stepping off the path a little but so many people lately with similar findings of "you can't be related, my DNA doesn't match". Is everyone out there forgetting about people & how they come about? Back to your query Sue, Do any of the families know of possible 2nd marriages in Armagh or Keady or there-abouts?
I don't think this is an adoption or 2nd marriage. ( Could be, but I really don't believe so).. These are folks we haven't found yet as they are a generation or two beyond our so-far completed searches. Back in Ireland around 1750-1800... I believe it is very real connection, we just don't know who yet.
Haven't time to check it out, but have a look at this website: Code: http://www.from-ireland.net/county-armagh-genealogy/
Thanks Sis... The marriage records they are all too recent for me. Their information is limited, however if someone is looking for a person who falls in the years they have it will be most helpful.
