As I've been reading the WW1 Service Records, I've often noted the phrase "Committing a nuisance" on the "Offences" sheet, and chuckled to myself, thinking that some playful mischief has been done.

    NOT ANY MORE!

It's a euphemism - the complete expression is "Committing a nuisance in his blankets".
Those poor boys, so scared that they were wetting the bed ... and then the Army had the nerve to punish them.

Just how many 'parents' did same humiliating children for such behaviour, never stopping to think they may have been the cause or a physical condition.
I heard a relation call a child a filthy little b...h for doing same age (about 7 when staying over at her house.) never thinking child may be missing parents or some-one in relations house was a worry... later known to be a bit of a rock spider.
