I am looking for any Parish Register listings for the surname TINNUCHE. Up to 90% of the Tinnuche's are to be found in the Llanelly/Carmarthenshire area. I have a complete listing of Birth, Marriages and Deaths from 1850-2005 from the GRO indexes but need to locate the Baptisms etc. I do know that anyone with this surname will be related to me even though mine is spelled slightly different. Many thanks Alan Tennuchi
Hello Alan and welcome to the forum Findmypast has many Carmarthenshire parish registers but I can't see any Tinnuche/Tinnuchi in their Carmarthen Baptism or Carmarthen Marriage indexes. Perhaps the family were non-conformists or went to a church whose records aren't included in the index? From looking at census returns it would appear that two brothers (Joseph and Paul Tinnuche, born in London in the late 1850s) went to Wales. Both married and had children there. You should be able to cross-check many of the birth registrations against the census to see which children belong to whom. If you don't already have details from the censuses, do shout. I think I see Joseph (3) and Paul (1) in Soho in 1861 with their parents, Paul (a sculptor) and Hannah, and a sister, Augusta (5) (RG 9/175, folio 23, page 39). The only one of these three for whom I've spotted a baptism so far is 'Augusta', who was baptised as Agnestina Tunnuci at the General Lying-in Hospital, Lambeth, on 31 May 1855 (born 26 May); daughter of Paul & Hannah Tunnuci, of 26 St Ann's Court, Dean Street, Soho. Father a sculptor. (The child's name is transcribed as Agenstina Tunnall on Ancestry; her birth was registered as Aguztina Tinnuci).
I know it's not what you are after, but following on from Huncamunca's post, you may have already found the trial at the old Bailey which involved an assault on Joseph Tinnuci? If not, you'll find it at http://www. oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=t18540508-name-653&div=t18540508-686#highlight Ann
How fascinating, Ann! I see that Joseph says 'I am a moulder, employed at the Crystal Palace, at Sydenham' and his son Paul says he works there too. The trial (1854) is at just the right time for the rebuilding of the Crystal Palace. Here's one bit about it, but I can't resist going off to look for more about the Italian connection now: http://www. crystalpalacefoundation.org.uk/history/the-rebuilding-at-sydenham-1852-1854-2 P.S. sorry Alan, we're easily side-tracked, as you can see
The only one I could find has the same spelling as you. Must be a stray living in Kent. Rosaline Gertrude Emmie TENNUCHI Baptism date: 22 Feb 1899, Holy Trinity, Dartford, Kent Father: Charles, Mother Eva Gertrude Father occupation: Fire Inspector Abode 114 Fulwich Rd Parish Register number: 1621
I thought this was interesting from the Llanelli Mercury of 20th May 1897 Board of Guardians (Llanelly) APPLICATION FOR AN INMATE. An application was received from Mrs. R. Griffiths, Llandebie, to adopt one of the inmates, Agnes Tinnuche, a little girl 2 1/2 years old. Mrs. Griffiths appeared before the Board and the chairman asked her if she would be kind to her. The applicant replied that she would. The Chairman; How long have you been married? (laughter). The Applicant - Two years. The Chairman - What is your age? The Applicant - 25 years. The Chairman - Even if you get children yourself, you promise to respect the little girl? The Applicant - Yes. The application was granted. Ann
The 1861 census RG 9; Piece: 175; Folio: 23; Page: 39 Paul, indexed as TEMMER on Ancestry but has member submitted alternatives. Paul's wife is named Hannah born Wales, Paul born Scotland. This must be their marriage in the GRO index Jan-Feb-Mar, 1855, R.D. Strand. vol 1b, page 438 Paul Tinnuci also indexed Hannah Jones
An Albert Arthur Tennuci was christened 1884 in Croydon, son of Charles Tennuci and Harriet Whitcombe. Angelina Eliza Tennuci 1882, also in Croydon, dau of Charles and Harriet
The above Charles was born circa 1845 IOW according to census returns. An example is: 1881, RG11, Piece number 137, Folio 31, Page 8 I therefore wonder if he's from the same family as Paul born Scotland at #7 who is possibly the brother of Janet/Jessie's husband? 1861, Portland Mews, Westminster. Again a user submitted correction has been made to the surname, also suggests Janet's name is actually Jessie. Janet Tunnachia 50, mar, wardrobe dealer, Scotland Auglangia Tunnachia 19, Kent Matthew Tunnachia 20, Newcastle Barthomely Tunnachia 14, photographic artist, Isle of Wight Maria Louisa Tunnachia 9, France May Carmichael 38, lodger, Scotland Joseph Riva 49, brother, mariner, Scotland n.b. Charles born 1845 was a sailor on board a ship in 1861, seems they were a seafaring family and possibly why Janet's husband is away on census night; would also explain the different birth places of the children.

Parish Church Tooting Graveney, June 10th 1872 John Perriane? age 53yrs, widower, upholsterer, father Joseph Perriane? (mason) Maria Le Brune 39yrs, widow, of Tooting Graveney, father: Joseph Tennuchi (sculptor) Witnesses: Angelina Tennuchi and John Smart (from memory Angelina and John Smart are living together as man and wife with children, in 1871.)
Looks like Paul possibly died pre 1879. Parish Church, Croydon, Nov 24th 1879 Jabez Clements, full age, widower, bootmaker, father: Henry Clements (sawyer) Hannah Tinnuchi, full age, widow, father: David Jones (mariner)
St John the Evangelist, Lambeth, 11 Nov 1889 Henry Lygo, 40yrs, bachelor, butcher, father: William (painter) Agnes Tinnuchi, 32yrs, spinster, father: Paul Tinnuchi (castor and moulder) Witnesses Frederick and Georgiana Lygo
John Smart died 7th Jan 1885. He left a personal estate of £147 10s, Angelana Tinnuchi of 18, Lincoln Terrace, Clapham, was an executor. As I understand it there was a dispute of some kind as the index says "The administration granted at the Principal Registry January 1885 having been revoked"
Having read the forum title which is Carmarthenshire, I fear my info is not what Alan is looking for...........ah well, no worries as the info may be useful to other researchers. I can't find ONE parish record in Wales, I'm guessing they were Roman Catholic and many Catholic Church records haven't been released to record offices etc, when that's the case one has to approach the church direct - if you know WHICH church.
Alan, have you tried contacting Dyfed Family History Society? http://www. dyfedfhs.org.uk/cmn-churchesandchapels.php
Genuki gives this information "Held at Carmarthen Archives; St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Carmarthen, transcriptions by Mrs C Llewellyn of baptismal and marriage registers 1856-1980."
