Can anyone make out what the name of the father is?

Could it possibly be Presdee or Pressdee?

Margaret Yapp had 3 children before she married my great grandfather.

    Mary c.1894
    Annie c.1895
    Alfred William 04 Aug 1897

Alfred William is the only one I have a birth cert for, there is no fathers name given. After their marriage they had a further 2 children Albert George and Thomas ( Albert was my grandfather)

On the 1911 census only Albert and Thomas are named as son's. Ann and William are Step children (Mary isn't at home)

So the story goes, Annie got her self in the family way and was put into an institution in Bishops Castle, where she remained for most, if not all of her life. Not sure when this was, I did ask at the archives but they said the records were closed for 100 years.

I have found an Annie Pressdee as an inmate in Bishops Castle, Shropshire in 1939. The only problem is The one in the image above was born 24th October 1895, the one in the institution (transcribed as 'Pressdie') says she was born 11th January 1896, she is single.

Ps. all the step children born Yapp took the name Pressdee later.

Duh, I just re-read your post. Sorry you wasn't saying you couldn't find her birth just that you didn't have her birth cert. (Note to self Read things properly when being sneaky at work:rolleyes:)

Yep, see, even that gives a different date of birth to the baptism register.

By the way Annie in the institution is marked as a Lunatic, I wondered where that family trait came from :D

Ok have sent for her birth cert. Have also sent for a birth cert for the Frances L Pressdee born in the Clun district in 1916. I know Annie had a child (which sex I don't know) this Frances has a mother with name Pressdee.

If this isn't Annie's child it won't matter. Frances went on to marry a Thomas McCarley in 1937. I have heard of Frances coming to stay with my grandfather and his family for a while. Until, that is, my grandfather found out she had left her husband. He then told her it was about time she found a place of her own or go back.

I've had a rethink. Maybe it is supposed to be Margaret Ann Pressdee Yapp but got heard wrong and written as Preston. Am I bit behind the eight ball here? :( If so then I apologise in advance.

Margaret would have definitely been a Yapp at the time of the childs birth. She married my great grandfather in 1898. It also says (the part I haven't included ) that the fathers occupation was Labourer.
