I have just discovered on FMP that 2 brothers were in the Merchant Navy. They both served on the same ship one in 1835 and the other in 1836. The ship was given as Four Brothers of London. I have googled but have found very little on this ship, any ideas please?

There appear to be quite a few by that name but have emailed you a link to a google book about one particular ship of that name. Probably not it but the only one I can find in that time span.

Unfortunately for you Sis, there were an awful lot of ships named "Four Brothers" :( There may not have been so many from London, but I think it may be difficult pinpointing a particular vessel. If you have anything more specific you may be able to track her down via the papers, as shipping movements were widely reported. The Merchant Seaman's Act didn't come into force until 1835, so up till then then there was no 'official' list of merchant seamen, so your chaps are really in the early days.

Thank you, silly me didn't think to search google books!! I found one of that name in Lloyds register for 1835 & 36 but it didn't say when it was built. I will make a note of the link.:)

My main reason for trying to find out what the ship may have been like was the fact that one brother was 17 and he other was only 12!!! What I think I'll do instead is try to find ships of that era and that will give me an idea.
    Thank you ladies.

12 years old wasn't that unusual for a lad going to sea :(
