    It wasn't her!
Did Sylvia return to Canada? Will there be passenger lists?
For the most part her family lived in Lorain,Ohio so that is where I will concentrate and the moment.

Ancestry has a Bradley family tree and Sylvia Adeline Truan appears with parents Reynold Brash.
Why would they put her in the tree when she was a servant, and in the 1911 census they had her as adopted daughter, but she still had the surname Truan?
1912 she had gone to the USA and promptly disappeared.

Looking around various sites and think that Sylvia was put in a home and then fostered by said family.
Unforunately,if I have read correctly, there aren't any records of childrens homes or fostering/adoption.
    Another door slammed shut!
    But again?
    There is this:
    http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/en/microfilm/hawke_papers.aspx#home
    Probably no use to me.

    Looking for Sylvia again.
Found on Familysearch- New York, Northern Arrival Manifests, 1902-1956.Buffalo, Lewiston, Niagara Falls, and Rochester.
12 October 1912 ,Sylvia Adelaide Truan age 18 place of birth Cornwall and nationality Canada .Last residence was Hamilton ,Canada.
Nearest relative was her father George Truan,Portsmouth,England.
Destination to grandmother Mrs George Truan at Main Street,Wellington,Ohio.
At the bottom is says .Seaport and date of landing - March 1908 SS Unknown.
I presume the 1908 was when she arrived in Halifax.
    Then that is that.
I can't find anymore information about her. Did she return to Canada and marry or did she stay in the USA?

There is a record of a Sylvia Adeline TRUAN (aged 10, so a bit out, but searched births and can't find another) arriving on 23 March 1908 at Portland, Maine. Sailed from Liverpool on the ship Dominion on 12 March 1908 with a number of other children who all have Dr Barnardo's Home, London as Name and Address of nearest relative or friend. They were going from there (USA) to Dr Barnardo's Homes, Toronto. The record says she was born in St. Just, England.

You would think with a name as Sylvia Adeline/Adelaide that it would be easier to find than Mary,Janeor Ann.

I have found Sylvia and her mother Hannah in the 1907 Portsmouth ,Hampshire, workhouse records. FMP.
Her mother died in 1907 and her father remarried the same year and also had a son born in 1907 with his 2nd wife.
I wonder why Sylvia's father and step-mother didn't look after her unstead of Sylvia being sent to Canada.
Father George Henry Truan was blind.

The original says she is an ADOPTED domestic, which I find quite appalling really. Either she was adopted (meaning an adopted daughter) or she was a hired domestic help. Not free labour.........

I agree with you that it is appalling that she was an Adopted Domestice.
It will be interesting if her life turned out for the best.
From the worlhouse with her mother to be sent to Canada etc.
Is there anyway of finding addreeses other than a census?
In 1912 #24 she was to see her grandmother at Main Street,Wellington,Ohio. Her grandmother was Eliza.

I just found that and was going to post it. So it looks as though Sylvia was not with them, otherwise I would have thought she would have got a mention.

    Just found another item.
The funeral was held at the home of her daughter Mrs Melvyn Pier and the remains were shipped to Wellington for burial.
It is a shame that there is no mention of mourners as they do in this country,
