If you take a look at the census for 1861, living at Ludno Villa, North Parade, Llandudno, Conway, Caernarvonshire, is the Liddell family. (Ref: piece 4359, folio 41, page 14) Amongst the children is Alice Pleasance Liddell, who was to become the inspiration for Alice in Wonderland, written by Lewis Carroll.

The name of Lewis Carroll was used by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who was born today, 27th January 1832 in Daresbury, Cheshire. Charles created his pseudonym so as to have some semblance of privacy but later in life, when asked how he came up with the name his reply was purported to be that he translated his first two names into Latin, reversing the order, and then translated them back into English.

Hmmm….. must try that some time ;)
