One thing that has me rather frustrated and doubtful is that on the 1851 Census Isaac's birth place was given as Watten. Yet all the other children of John Sutherland and Catherine/Katharine Gunn appear to have been born in Berriedale/Latheron. Could this be a case of incorrect names for parents being put on the death certificate? I note for instance that none of Isaac's sons are named John. In order his sons are Robert, William, Isaac and James: how does the Scottish naming rule go again? It is also interesting that James middle name is McFarlane and I wonder where that came from.

His daughters in order are Catherine, Christina and Elizabeth and those names fit better. Catherine being his mother's name and Christian (Christina) being Margaret's mother's name.

Looking at them all again I recall why I spat the dummy sometime ago and left them alone. At one stage I did a whole lot of work on the Badbea connection and then deleted it all!:headbang:

There is something a bit quirky about freereg2 as I had a bit of a problem refinding it! But itis there .
Katharine Gun and John Suthd. Latheron. No date given in the index (tho contracted 22 Jan 1796 in record) - so prob better not to put in a date and to look at the undated records at the top of page. Hope this helps!

I can't even get it to start once I've keyed in the search persons.

If you put Gun, Katharine(note spellings) , Caithness, Latheron, and marriage into search terms in freereg2 - does that work foryou?

Non! Once I'd keyed in the parcipitant Date & place [ony Caithness came up, not Latheron] then I had to go thro' the cookie nonsense again which bought up a cleared field again. not going though all that again, wil just be happy to take your word for the result. :headbang:

I notice with freereg that you now have to accept their cookie thing at the top of the page before it will let you search.
