According to baptism records Henry Thomas BIDDISS was born 25 June 1847 and baptised 3 April 1848 at Christchurch, Hoxton, Hackney to Henry and Elizabeth.

A sister Elizabeth Harriet BIDDISS was born 19 Nov 1850 and baptised 15 Dec 1850 at the same church.

I cannot find these two births registrations. I've looked at the GRO, FreeBMD, FMP and Ancestry.

Just wanted to confirm their mother's maiden name (hoping it to be Sterry) - but not having any luck :(

I have tried all sorts of spellings for the surname. If anyone can find them, I would be eternally grateful.

I searched on FamilySearch and found 2 marriage records in Manhattan, New York, for Henry Thomas Biddiss born 1847. The first in 1874 shows his mother as Elizabeth Streey and the second in 1881 shows his mother as Elizabeth Steary. Could this be the one you're looking for?

    Also found:

Henry Biddiss married Sarah Elizabeth Pyne or Elizabeth Ann Sterry in Lambeth in 1845.
Elizabeth Harriet's baptism record shows her mother as Mrs Elizabeth Ann Biddiss.

No sign of birth registrations, though :(

It sounds like him - thank you. I haven't spent time looking any further for the children (though I did find a marriage for Elizabeth Harriet with her sister Rose/Rosanna as a witness, and have them on census together), just trying to sort out who belongs to who at the moment.

Thanks - I have the marriage on 29 Dec 1845 to Elizabeth Ann Sterry. He was previously married to a Jane Spinks who died in 1842.

It was really the birth registrations I was after - perhaps they have just been missed off.

Remember that before 1875 it was the responsibility of the registrar to ensure that births were registered - not the parents - and there were no penalties on the parents for non-registration. As a result, a sizeable number of births went unregistered.

Yeah, me too. Resulting in a really solid brick wall which is unlikely ever to topple.

Thanks for trying. I think he was born 11 July 1846 to Thomas Biddis/s and Elizabeth Harris - Vol 4 Page 449 (couldn't see anything for Vol. 4 Page 20)
