I liked the window into Toronto and Halifax - I always find new places enthralling. I think the programme had the potential to be very interesting... but then I dozed off. :sceptical: Will try and catch the rest of it later.

Well, I must say that I thought that last night's programme was not as engaging as others had been. Katherine Ryan seemed to be more interested in finding English roots rather than discovering more about the ancestors that she found along the way, although glimpses of those people were provided.

However, that can reflect what a lot of people do tend to do - go back as far as possible in time and just have a list of names along the way.

I agree Jan, she didn't really seem to be interested in anything other than proving she had some English roots - any English roots! If I had been her and was shown those two portraits, I think my reaction might have been a bit more enthusiastic.....

I've known "I's the B'y that builds the boat" since I did teacher training in 1981 and taught it recently in school having looked up Bonavista on the map. I shall now use 'maggoty fish' as my edition has 'rancid' instead - the kids will love it.

Haven't yet caught up with this week. I watched the Kate Winslet yesterday and I have to say I don't think she was being overly dramatic, I think that is just genuinely how she is, and I've been in tears in the Record Office making connections to someone I've only just discovered. I think the cut away to the experts face were supposed to make you feel that she was over reacting, which I find unfair, as I do when no effort is made to correct naive assumptions which any newbie would make.

@mugwortismy cat I did like the bit where she was learning the drums and the drumstick flew out of her hand - that would be me:D:D

I have now watched last nights and thought it was a bit slow, definitely not as engaging as the others but still enjoyable. Roll on the rest of the series

I liked the Katherine Ryan episode although do agree about her wanting to find English ancestors. Liked that she had different thoughts to the expert lol... and what those Asterix meant :D She did seem pleased that her Canadian roots were much longer than she thought :)

Thanks Jan. With it being re-scheduled (thanks to 'Poldark') I would have missed it.

I only just watched the Paul Merton episode on catch up. I got quite excited when they mentioned his Grandfather disembarking at Salonika in Sept 1916, as my Gt Grandfather disembarked there a few weeks before that. Then they completely skipped over that and moved briefly to Egypt ☹️☹️
