They are from a baptism register of 1733.
Looks like a truncated Robert to me...
The bottom one does to me, but I'm not so sure the top one does. (But I could be wrong). They are from the same page and the whole page is written in the same hand.
The bottom one I would say is definitely Robert.
I'm wondering if I'm just seeing what I want to see. When I first read the entry I immediately said Reverend Revd. Can anyone else see that or is it wishful thinking?
Agree with Chimp. The top one though is a puzzler. To me it comes across as Roo with a floating d.
So it does, now I'm even more confused!
I have seen the letter 'e' seemingly in reverse as in this snip which allows or a v'd. ergo Rev'd.
Magnify it, definitely NOT an 'o'.
That's what I thought when I first saw it. (And Robt for the other one)
