Can anyone help to find what happened to the Salter children?
Sorry it is so long, but I wanted to lay out all the info that I have
Thomas Salter (c1811 Bethnal Green), a fellowship porter married Susannah Matthews (c1811 Ipswich Suffolk) 8/5/1835 St Ann's Soho
They had children - Susanna 1836, George Thomas 1838-1839, Frances Louisa 1840-1843, Sarah Rachel 1843-1844, Matilda Ann 1845, Ellen 1847 and Emma 1850
    1841 census HO107 piece696 book9 folio10 page12 St George's in the East
    Thomas, Susan, Susan and Frances
    1851 census HO107 piece1548 folio410 page15 St George's in the East
Thomas, Susan, Mary(Matilda)6, Ellen 4, Emma 0 and Susan 16
    1852 Susanna[h] b1811 dies
1853 Susanna b1836 has an illegitimate son John (father John Carter - gone abroad, abandoned her) possibly John Thomas Salter Dec qtr 1853 Stepney 1c 434 mmn Matthews - could Susannah misunderstood and given her own mmn?
1855/6 3 entries in the poor law and removals records, Dec 1856 is the last sighting of Susanna and son John
1861 census Thomas, Ellen and Emma are in Love Lane Shadwell RG09/282/93/38, living in the same house as Susanna's (1811 Ipswich) sister and family (Brown - on the next census page) - surname Satter on FMP. Matilda is missing, I cannot find a death even though on one of the poor law records it states she is sick. This is the last siting of Emma.
1871 census I cannot find any of them
    1875 Thomas died.
At some point Ellen goes to Kent, marries George Larking 1874, has a daughter Maie Georgina in 1875 and George Larking Dies in 1876
On 1/7/1878 Ellen marries her first cousin George Thomas Brown in Bethnal Green
1881 George, Ellen, Maie (enumerated as Mary) are living in Love Lane with George's parents.
1891 RG12/245/49/2 Shoreditch, George, Ellen, Maie (enumerated as Maud) plus Ellen Elizabeth b1886 and Matilda Georgina b1890
1892 Maie marries (I have her sorted)
    1893 Matilda Georgina dies
1901 RG13/268/79/33 Shoreditch George, Ellen and Ellen E - then they too vanish.

So what happened to Susanna and John? - there is another possible child Susannah Salter (no mmn) born 1857 Mar qtr Stepney 1c 483
Did Matilda die, I cannot find a death reg.
    What happened to Emma?
Where are Thomas and daughters in 1871?
Finally where did the Brown family disappear to after 1901?

    Any help gratefully recieved:)

No luck with anything on these two I'm afraid. I did find the baptism, but that doesn't help.

Thanks for trying Sis - I suppose if they are in the workhouse then they could just be entered as initials:(

My family is the Brown's and have been trying to find Ellen and George Thomas
after 1901. I had hoped to find one, or more of her siblings, had emigrated and she followed them, but the whole Salter clan just vanish off the face of the earth:sceptical:

My Vaughan/s family at times turned in to Warn/s. So was saying Salter out loud trying to see what else it could sound like. Don't know why really 'cos it was BH that found them under Warns that gave ,e the clue and led to other Warn/s.

There is a possibility for Ellen BROWN (b 1846) as a boarder with the COX family in Stratford - about 5 miles away from Shoreditch where they were in 1901:

    RG14 PN9348 RG78 PN505 RD188 SD1 ED7 SN140

The year of birth given is 1846 plus the place of birth is Shadwell, as on the 1901 census. Ellen is a widow.

There is a death registered in the March quarter of West Ham RD for a George BROWN in 1907 aged 61, which would give him a birth year of probably 1845 (as mentioned in 1901). West Ham RD covered Stratford, so might be him.

Just a couple of thoughts.... :)

    Whoo hoo Jan.8(:-)
I really think that is my Ellen in 1911. The yob and pob fit as do the 3 live births and 1 child dying.
I will speak to my cousin and I think that dc needs to be ordered

    Thank you so much.

After the goose chase with the Salters, I would still like to find out what happened to them - if anyone wants to pull their hair out, like I have been doing;)

    Just an update.

My cousin found a burial for Matilda, just days after an entry in the removals register (for the family). She was buried in Victoria Park Cemetary 27/3/1856.
We still have not found a registration though.

A marriage has been found for Emma 1878 (and then through to her death), but where she was from 1861 until the marriage remains unknown.

Could the younger Susannah be this person: Susannah Carter who is living with the Rust family in both 1861 and 1871??
    1861:
    Susannah Carter at Chelmsford
    Sub Chelmsford
    ED 5
    HS 20
    Pce 1079 F71 p4
Described as Niece to Head (John Rust)

AND Jemima Carter in the 1871 Census (born 1849) has MMN CARTER!
