Patience Maud Atthow[e] dau. of Robert and Emily was baptised 6 Jun. 1886. The parish is shown as HEVINGHAM and the residence was HEVINGHAM.

According to the GRO her mmn was Stone and the R.D. was Aylsham vol;4B page 88 1886. The census images for 1891 - RG12/1515/16/6 - shows the residence on Town Street and Robert and Emily were both employed and had a total of 10 children.
She is not with the family in 1901 - RG13/1833/72/14 - and to date I have not found her in 1901 possibly working as a Servant somewhere!!:)

On 29 May 1909 @ Christ Church, Brondesbury, Middlesex, she married Herbert Walter Hayes and she and her husband were both employed in 1911 census as members of the domestic staff of Hugh Campbell and lived in @ 22 Aylstone Avenue. Her place of birth was given as HEVINGHAM.

I am trying to locate this place and the only one I'm coming up with is SHERINGAM. Is this the same place or am I off-base?

If you look at the birth on FreeBMD and click on Aylesham it gives all the parishes covered by the registration district and Hevingham is shown as one of them, and if you Google it, it comes up as a village between Norwich and Cromer

I am back with more problems with Patience Maud and Herbert Walter Hayes. I know where they were in 1911 and in Sep. 1915 when Herbert enlisted in the Army Service Corps. [Mechanical Transport] he had been employed as a Motor Driver and he and Patience were residents of 23 Hazlerigge Road, Clapham.

I have found the couple - no children? - in 1939 living @ Siresa [sic], Norwich Road, Forehoe and Henstead, Norfolk and Herbert was Chief Traffic Inspector. I presume from this occupation he was somewhat of a Civil Servant for the community. He was 53 years old.

Death registrations for both show them dying in Norwich Outer R.D.
    Patience Maud - 4th q. 1952 - vol. 4b page 692
    Herbert Walter - 4th q. 1966 - vol. 4b page 811

Without buying death cert.s can I be reasonably certain that they were still residents of Forehoe and Henstead when they died?

Forehoe and Henstead became part of the Norwich Outer Registration District on 1st January 1939. :)

Have just about finished up with Patience Maud and I think it safe to say that her father had no intentions of dying young [like his own parents!!]

Robert was the 2nd of 3 children born to William Atthowe and Mary Ann Medler who were married 1 Apr. 1850 in Hevingham. The children were Elizabeth [1850], Robert [1852] and William [1855]. Before the 1861 census both William and Mary Ann were dead:
    William - buried 25 Oct. 1859
    Mary Ann - buried 16 Apr. 1860
and all 3 children were with Mary Ann's widowed mother - Elizabeth in 1861 census [RG9/1207/48/15] and 1871 [RG10/1804/51/25].

Robert married Emily Stone 15 Oct. 1875 and by 1881 they had 6 children - and the family grew again by 1891 when there were 10 children at home. Still more were born between 1891 and 1901 when in 1901 there were 4 more additions with the youngest born 4 Apr. 1897.

The 1911 census states that she and Robert had 17 children and that 15 were still living as of 1911. He was a farm lab. and she was a Horsehair Weaver and 6 children were still at home. Emily died Blofield R.D. 2nd q. 1923 vol. 4b page 312 and Robert died Norwich Outer R.D. 2nd q, vol.4b page 196.

An interesting aside - prior to marrying Emily Stone, Robert appears to have fathered a daughter in the 1st q. 1873 in Norwich R.D. vol. 4b page 108. The child was registered as Edith Attoe. The mother's maiden name was MORTIMER.
It would appear that Edith later lived with Robert and Emily since about the time of their marriage.
After Robert and Emily married their 1st child was named Mary Ann Elizabeth and she was registered in Aylesham 2nd q. 1876 as HOWE in the GRO. She was baptised 6 Aug. 1876 [same date as Edith] and the baptism register indicates that the mother of both was Emily STONE.

Any ideas as to how I can find out who Miss MORTIMER was?

    Walter - registered as ATTHOW - 2nd q. 1882 bapt 15 May 1882
    Clara Priscilla - registered as ATTHOW - 4th q. 1883 bapt 3 Feb 1884
    Florence Elizabeth - reg'd as Flossie ATTHOW - 1st q. 1885 bap 2 Apr. 1885
    Patience Maud - registered as ATTHOW - 2nd q. 1886 bapt 6 Jun 1886
