Thanks for that info Chimp. The army got his place of birth wrong it was Little Leighs but he could well have been living in Chelmsford by the age of 18/19, he had a sister, my grandmother, living there, in 1911 he was still living at home and working in Little Leighs. He came from a large family, 11 children and 21 years between the first and last child. By the way I have a photo of the Little Leighs memorial in my media, it's a brass plate, not many names on it but Little Leighs is a very small village.
