Sorry, I don't have subs to lookup refs. Do we know husband William's profession or anything about his death?
Depending on which census you look at either a Labourer or Ag Lab or on James' marriage cert a Farmer. As to his death there are too many possibilities to look at
They never make it easy, do they? Given all the Latin on the certs - were they Catholic? (Just trying to think of anything to narrow the search).
Those baptisms are in Catholic Churches but the marriages take place in CoE Churches so it is a right mix
Small question..the baptism of James Smith 1861. Who is Jacobus Smith? Also, just as Barb, I also don't have any subs, so looking up a census is near impossible with only refs given. I will puddle around as best I can though on the 1871.
I read the baptism for James as: Jacobus (James) Smith son of Guglielmus (though it looks like there's an i at the end) (William) Smith and Anna Smith (Benbow). I noticed the Guglielmus (Latin for William) and remembered my Guillaume (French for William) Jaques that I have.
I can't either AM, it was the Guglielmus that caught my eye. For once I remembered my (or I should say OH's) Guillaume.
Me neither, but I grew up in Texas, so have a lot of Espanol (Spanish). Smiths. We all got 'em. Gotta love 'em.
Well I tried everything I can think of - Ann no surname just pob, same for Kate. Looked in Willenhall (Kate's and Mary's pob) nothing nor Wolverampton I did try, with no luck, to find Miner Street in 1871 I gave it my best shot
I assume you have discounted the return for Stone RG10/2822 page 42, which shows Ann Smith widow and 12 years old daughter Mary. Can't decipher Ann's POB beyond its somewhere in Staffordshire
I read it as Chebsey, Stafford. "Chebsey is a small village in Staffordshire 2.5 miles southeast of Eccleshall on a confluence of Eccleshall water and the River Sow some 5 miles northwest of Stafford."
Hi Everyone thank you for your help I will have a look at all the suggestions etc when I get home from work tonight
