Thomas Keable/Kable/Cable etc was born about 1813 in Suffolk, England. He married Fanny Ellis in 1840 at St Dunstan's Church, Tower Hamlets:
    From FreeBMD
    Marriages Jun 1840

    ELLIS Fanny Whitechapel 2 479
    KEABLE Thomas Whitechapel 2 479
    KEARLE Thomas Whitechapel 2 479

Son Thomas James arrived shortly afterwards and was duly registered and baptised at St Dunstan's.

GRO: KABLE, THOMAS JAMES ELLIS GRO Reference: 1840 D Quarter in STEPNEY Volume 02 Page 468

Then Fanny and baby Thomas James appear in the 1841 Census. No dad.

More children arrived: Emma Elizabeth 1842, William 1843, Francis 1846, Mary Ann 1849, George 1850 and Henry Charles 1854. It's difficult to find any of them in the Census after Thomas apart from William. Maybe Thomas Senior was a Journeyman of some trade? Maybe they mostly died young, and/or were in the Workhouse. Various A-site Trees have lots of incorrect information about them all, having them change sex and marry people all over the shop!

Could someone help me sort this lot, please?

I would say that this is them, as on their marriage on 24th May 1840 Thomas gives his profession as 'Waiter'

Daughter Frances Keable married Alfred Starkey a police constable

A tree on Anc gives the death of Thomas Keable 12/10/1867 at 8 Gibson Street, Greenwich - there is a death reg for Thomas Keable age 54 Dec qtr 1867 Greenwich 1d 489

Fanny is enumerated as wid on 1871 and1881 census

William Keable married Rose Pettipher in 1874 (Dec qtr Greenwich 1d 1280)
William died in 1887 age 43 (Sept qtr Greenwich 1d 668)

I spied them somewhere on a census but I'm sure the wife was Mary. I know there was a Francis, daughter and Thomas was a victualler. Just forgot where and have to go get my hair cut so cant have another look just yet. Sorry

I would try many different spellings for a name like that. Try Keeble, Keble, try changing the le to el. Even change the K to letters the may be wrongly transcribed such as H or F.

Now I've tried to make them come up on the 1851 Census, I can't, no matter what I type in, including the Piece, Folio etc. I cannot get a Frances/Francis, a Thomas, a Fanny or a George with surname anything like Keable at Woolwich Road, London and Kent. What does the A-site do to the Census?? Maybe I should go to FreeCen?

Actually if you want to find someone on the census, try NOT entering their names, just enter the Piece, Folio and Page, then look down the list for a likely suspect.

But, that only works if you have the Piece, Folio and Page numbers to start with :)
