I follow a facebook page and blog called Ian Visits which summarises things happening and events in London. Today Ian shared a link to an article in an e-newsetter called Spitalfields Life that featured the closure of the Whitechapel Bell Foundry which apparently was Britain's oldest manufacturing business. Terribly sad. No links because I think the newsletter runs ads.

Very interesting article though with lots of photos and history.

How very sad, I remember passing the wonderful building many times - a true icon of the East End. Thank goodness the building is listed, but it must be heartbreaking for the Hughes family.

    An absorbing read, thank you.

One of my great uncles worked in a bell foundry.
