Bloomin’ ‘ec - I had to go away and do other things, and look what happened. Well done MM, I prescribe a lay down in a darkened room with something alcoholic
In 1841 I can only find a Thomas Elliot in Barrington Grace Elliot b1796 Thomas Elliot b1823 Eliza Elliott b1831 Thanks Ann, a coffee will suffice
I might be getting somewhere (not sure where though) Bap at Barrington 6/1/1822 Thomas Ellott mother Grace a spinster. I only have access to the transcription, so nothing to say if reputed father was William Dade
Why do I do it? I thought I might look for William Dade in 1841, who did I find but Hugh Dade and wife Hannah (in Barrington - where-else?) and 3 children and who are they grouped with - Absolom Male b1755 HO107 piece954 book1 folio5 pages 4 & 5 On page 4 is one ruth Dabinett age 59 Hugh Dade bap Barrington 29/4/1807 son of William and Anne Dade I am off for that coffee and to cook dinner, I need to try and sort out my thinking
I'm rather touched by the fact that Grace Elliott got herself baptised in Barrington at the age of 73, the year before she died
The FreeReg transcription for William Elliott Dade's baptism, taken from the Parish Register, has a note "possibly also known as Dade"
I have gone right back to the beginning, trying to get my head around this all. I went back to the bapt of William Elliott s/o Caroline Rosina and something caught my eye - look at the bapt below Are we now looking at a clerical error when the register was written up? Should William Elliott have the name Dabinett, not William s/o May Moncter(?)
I believe so. He has the middle initial D in at least one census I'm sure he fits into the picture somewhere, just not clear where right now
Grace Elliott had several other children, William, Sarah, Emily and Eliza. Don't know if they were William Dade's children also. I might try and trace them tomorrow
I would have thought William's father was from one of the Dabinett families or why else give him that name, If I have it straight William Dabinett Elliott is s/o Caroline Rosina b1859 William Elliott/Dade is s/o Thomas Elliott/Nett*/Dade and Louisa Slade b1859 We have both with their respective families on 1861 census But we only have one birth reg Langport Dec qtr 1859 for William Dabinett Elliot * the more I look at this I think this should be Eliott, and the incumbent got it wrong when writing it up
I would expect no less from this lot - here are the other children's bap Sam 1860 Emily 1864 Walter 1862 Jane Harriet (is this Eliza?) 1866
Talk about not see for looking - I never noticed that baptism under the one for William Elliott to Caroline Rosina And what a bunch of baptisms - you pay your money and you pick your surname. I’ll have a rummage through the papers tomorrow and see if I can find anything where/why all the names are somehow connected.
