died age 24 in Cardiff, he was buried 9 Jul 1900 in Llandaff . The burial record has a note saying 'Coroner's order of burial'. So I wondered if there is anything on an inquest in the papers?

Not to worry if not, he's the step-son of one of my Ackerman's widows

He was supposed to have died from eating cockles. No external marks of violence. Heart was enlarged. etc.
Jury returned a verdict death was caused by the inflamed state of the stomach induced by the drink and cockles.

According to the Western Mail dated 9 July 1900, William George BENDING, 26, of Bradford Street, died supposedly through eating cockles which induced a syncope due to vomiting of the said cockles.

I've never had cockles in my life, and I don't think I ever will now

    Thank you all :)

In my 'umble opinion you haven't missed much, even without the threat of food poisoning. My grandparents loved cockles

I tried cockles once. It was like chewing fishy rubber.

As a child we used to go and catch them in the sands off Hayling Island when we lived in Havant. Thankfully, we didn't ingest any poisoned ones!!
