I find myself in the Midlands and it is all terribly unfamiliar to me, except I'm dealing with Hansfords  ...

William was born 12 Aug 1927 at Stourbridge, Worcestershire, where he was living in 1955 at the time of his death. However, I'm posting in Staffordshire because he died at Amblecote.

I'm just wondering if there is anything more to be found out about his death, which -- according to his probate -- took place at the British Railways Midland Division Power Station in Amblecote, Staffordshire.

His father, Arthur Leslie Hansford was a railway engineman, so it is possible William worked for the railways too.

Any clues in the death certificate?

I couldn't see anything on FMP's newspapers (in case it was an accident at work):(

I don't have that. I was hoping for something in the newspapers but I've realised it is probably too recent :(

I've had a rootle through the newspapers available on the BNA (there is some coverage for both Staffordshire and Worcestershire in 1955) but can't find any mention of anything relating to your Hansfords :(

I haven't found any mention in Ancestry's railway workers pages for William, only his Father. There are "W. Hansford" mentions but they seem to be from another person with many years so employed.
His probate notes admin to his Father so possibly he just had a wise father - for him to have made a will- or he was employed in a business which encouraged it.
The power station being so definitely mentioned adds weight to his being employed there but he may have been visiting or delivering something.
I wonder if it's worth contacting local council or Library for electoral records for him at his home address to see if he moved about much. A pity they don't give occupations too.

Don't know if you have his memorial inscription, but it is on a vertical stone on a plinth at St Mary's Oldswinford and reads:

"In loving memory of William Kenneth HANSFORD who died 18 May 1955 aged 27 years. Loved by all who knew him. His short life was an example to many"

Just come across this post so I thought I might try and help.
If I am correct, I am the Grandson of Arthur Leslie Hansford. He lived in Lye, opposite what was the Girls Grammar School. Arthur was a Union man and Railwaymen and helped to formulate many of the benefits now enjoyed by Railwaymen. He spent a lot of time in London at Head Office on Paddington Station, now a Hotel? William Kenneth (Kenny) I only knew briefly, until his untimely death. Arthur also had a daughter Cynthia. My Father married his other daughter Joan, and he was also on the Railway.
