I cannot find a Death record for the above relative. Winifred was born 5 Apr 1915 with GRO record:
    CADBY, WINIFRED MINCHER
GRO Reference: 1915 J Quarter in ASTON Volume 06D Page 1153
to Alfred Louis Cadby and Florence Mincher. She never had a middle name.

She married John Albert TONKS in 1935 and had 4 daughters: Sybil, Joyce, Janet and Helen. (Everyone born Birmingham except the last 2 girls, who were born in Pontypool).

John Albert died 1988 in Wales and unless Winifred emigrated, is exceptionally long-lived or re-married, I have found no trace of her Death.

Any assistance would be welcomed- even to tell me I am as blind as the proverbial and missed it when it was right next to her husband's notice!

The only one I can find is this one, but she has a second name.

    Another possibility.
Winifred MARY Tonks. March 1950. Birmingham. 9c 760. Age 36

My grandmother, at birth, was registered with just the one name. She was given a middle name when baptised.

PS I have just looked at the 1939 register. Only one name is showing.

This was promising but unfortunately (or fortunately for her) my Winnie gave birth to her 4th daughter in 1955.

Both John A & Winifred TONKS are in the 1939 Register of Birmingham living at 151 Dyas Road, so from the fact that her record is not redacted one assumes she is no longer living. However, like you, I cannot find an appropriate death registration for her. Oh wait a moment, perhaps a slight breakthrough. Electoral Registers for Cwmbran, not too far from Pontypool, show a Winifred TONKS living at 8 Cwm-Y-Nant Fields in 2002-4, she having lived there for 12 years, and in the 2011 Electoral Register she is shown as living in the Silver Birches Residential Home, having been there for 1 year. Perhaps worth further investigation?

Working on the supposition that these are usually a year out of date owing to publication dates etc, I had a look in the Probate lists for 2010 onwards on the off-chance. Found the following:
Winifred TONKS died 12th April 2010. Probate of grant and will dated 1st December 2010, Liverpool Registry, probate number 3424637.

    Any good?

Wow! Thanks for those gems- now I need to trawl the online Death Notices etc. for that part of Wales for any details, relatives etc. I had been going through various newspaper memorial sites but hadn't come across her. I wouldn't have thought of Probate- that's excellent THANK YOU!
