Seen on another family history website. Baroness Goldie DL says that the MOD has commenced the transfer of 9.7m Service Personnel Records to The National Archive. TNA will provide further information over the coming months via their website and social media platforms. The Data Protection Act 2018 will continue to apply to those Service Personnel Records where the individual is known to be alive.

I hope they don't lose any in the transfer. I am waiting for my father's record. Sent off in September and they still haven't cashed the cheque! I knew it would take a while but I have no way of knowing if they even received it!

They have been greatly affected by Covid and operating a vastly reduced service. I don't think the records are even digitised yet which would really complicate things. Frustrating though. :(

Ah! Right. I was going to apply for a serviceman's records today. In light of all the above posts I think I'll hold on a while and see what happens.

Worth waiting to see what happens I think. I'm doing the same.

Know I'm late to the party on this but thank @Blackmogs for this thread it has saved me asking a long and difficult question. I will advise my close DNA match to watch the TNA website rather than jump through lots of hurdles with the MOD.

Yes, I'm still doing that. 'On the back burner', as they say.

My father's record arrived at last, with apologies for the Covid related delay. unsurprisingly my cheque was uncashed as it was dated Sep 2020 so they asked for a replacement and provided an envelope, but no stamp!
Now to read the reams of paper and see if it will tell me anything new.
