I gave up teaching many years ago, but volunteered to do some "distance learning" with my 2 grandsons via Skype.
    I must be mad!!

Having been told "We've done WW1" and "We're doing hyperboles" I thought I'd better get the official versions and searched the school website for the curriculum.

This is the "homework" set for History for the Yr 8 (that's 2nd yr Secondary, age 12):

Some of the modern curriculum makes me wonder how kids are supposed to live in the real world.

They probably could but I’m not interested in what they have to teach.
On a good note, my great nephew has just done his first solo flight. He’s 15. His grandmother sent a photo of him next to his instructors plane. It’s the size of a mosquito. He is at least learning something useful and what he has been passionate about all his young life. Future Qantas pilot.

Already, this is turning into an exhausting exercise!!
I spend the afternoon trying to understand what's needed for the next morning ... no Genealogy work :(:(

But boy, am I learning new stuff ...
I can even identify a hyperbole and a litotes when I hear one (and last week I couldn't even pronounce "litotes") :D

I'll be one of the best educated (and know-it-all) Grannies in the country.
If I live to see the end of this, that is :nailbiting:

My neighbours kids have been home two days and their cat has decided to move in with me.
Found him asleep in my bedroom this afternoon -probably liked the peace & quiet.
Not sure if it is sensible to share pets just now...

You didn't do hyperbole at school? That's a bit of an exaggeration.

As I. I remember a prime minister had trouble with ‘hyperbole’ she pronounced as I would have. Hyper-bowl  The other word, that escaped me too. I keep it simple.
