How do you take yours?

0.00/5,
Tea, that is.

Personally, it is only in recent years that I have started drinking it – and even then Earl Grey is my preferred blend. None of this “builder’s brew” for me! However, coffee on the other hand… ;)

Once again, I digress.

Until the middle of the 19th century, the only way to buy tea was loose leaf and some unscrupulous dealers would add hedge trimmings, sawdust and other unsavoury bits and pieces in order to bulk it out. Up steps John Horniman, who was born today 4th December back in 1803.

John had founded the “Horniman’s Tea Company” in Newport on the Isle of Wight, but realised that he needed to be close to the bonded warehouses at London Docks, then the biggest tea trading port in the world. John was a Quaker and, following their tenets of honesty and integrity, developed a mechanical method of filling tea packets, which could then be sealed. The editor of the medical journal The Lancet arranged for various tea samples to be tested for purity, of which John’s tea was one. Needless to say, Horniman’s Tea came out on top. This ultimately led to the 1860 Adulteration of Food and Drink Act, which made it an offence to knowingly sell food that endangered health or that was adulterated in any way.

Oh dear, I am a coffee person.

We do have a fortnightly doorstep delivery from a northern company that started blending and delivering teas in 1907 - they have shiny vans to do the rounds instead of horses now and also bring my coffee.

Coffee in the morning and tea in the evening for me. I can't imagine having tea and/or coffee delivered to me :O There is money in the business of importing tea. For years my husband has done landscape construction and property maintenance for a chap that owns a large tea importing company in Toronto and has 2 properties up here. One is his summer home on Lake Huron and the other is a rural property that he owns and has for the use of his employees to experience "life in the country". It's an old refurbished log house on a huge rural acreage.

Happy with tea, especially Earl grey., though not fruity concoctions. With regard to coffee I have always avoided expresso as , to me , it was nastilly bitter (should add that I can quite happily eat unsweetened roasted cocoa mass as used to work for Cadburys). However some years ago I met a coffee connoisseur who has monthly deliveries of special extra-quality blends, and was persuaded to try his expresso,, and it was delicious. Apparently really good quality blends can produce a very acceptable expresso, though you might have to be a very well paid marketing person to afford them!

I drink quite a lot of coffee but also drink tea Usually Taylors Tea but Lady Grey also appeals because of its orange taste. This has replaced Earl Grey in my tea choices Remember my Gran had Horniman's tea delivered.
