How to Post Images

Huncamunca

The Knowledgeable One
  1. Underneath the box where you type thread posts, there are three green buttons. Click the middle one, 'Upload a File'.
  2. Choose the relevant image file from your computer and click 'Open' [command may be different in non-Windows operating systems!]
  3. Wait for the image to upload.
  4. Choose whether to insert 'Thumbnail' or 'Full image'. *
  5. Click 'Post Reply'.
* 'Full image' puts the whole image directly into the post. 'Thumbnail' inserts a thumbnail image, which if clicked will open the image in a new window. [NOTE] See post #6 of this thread.

Attaching other types of file
The same method can be used to attach other types of file, such as PDF or Microsoft Word files, to your post.

N.B. The maximum file size is 1536 kb.

An alternative method is to put your images on an image-sharing website such as Photobucket, and then to paste a link into your post.

Nice! But I wonder whether it would be a good idea (assuming it's possible) to make Thumbnail the default? I'm thinking of people on dial-up (I read a message from one only today, saying she was having trouble with a program download) or on capped tariffs, and presumably also people accessing via mobile, which I know little about - any of those might find an image of around 1.5MB either slow or expensive, if not both.

If the full image is on the page it's unavoidable unless you set your browser not to show images at all, which isn't always satisfactory, but with just thumbnails you can read through a thread with minimal impact on your bandwidth, and decide for yourself whether you want to see the images full size.

Just a thought...

Good point Arthur. I know my phone takes an age to load pictures. As you say with a thumbnail image at least I can decide if I want to see the full image.

Click on the 'User Albums'

If you hover your mouse over the images from left to right it will change the title picture to show the pictures within each album.

Since you can't set thumbnails as a default, can you amend the instructions that appear after clicking "Upload a File" (probably at the point where you have to choose between Thumbnail and Full Image) to include something like "Out of consideration for those on slow or capped connections we recommend using the Thumbnail option"?

Incidentally, I've never seen anything like the album preview feature that Chimp mentioned, but I think it's really good.

Is this only a problem on my computer? Many of the photos in the albums have the tops of heads clipped off. When posting my avatar, I also had this problem and had to keep cropping Matilda's photo until it posted correctly. Is there a trick or technique for posting so the photos come in complete? Again...maybe it is simply what my computer cares to show.---Yeates

Once you click on the picture within the actual album the whole picture is showing. It is only the clip for the slide show that has part of the photo missing. I don't think much can be done about that. :(

Aha! Yes, clicking the photo works beautifully. Thank you.---Yeates

What they said which took me minutes to type.:

click on your name: it shows "personal details"
page has your Avatar & legend 'change your avatar'
browse to select, will bring up any photos in your files for you to select. So first have the required photo/piccy in your files.

After that,..I forget but probably it will ask you to upload said photo/piccy.
then, there you are then..(P'raps)
