Can anyone identify this vest??

I hope I can do this right, but on one of my genealogy groups a woman put this picture out........she knows he is related in some way but has no name for him. The vest/collar got me looking and it is NOT Masonic or Knights of Columbus....and not rabbinical (grin).

This woman's name is Karen Thompson (married name I assume) and she says she has precious few details.......he came to Canada in 1899 and was possibly from Manchester or Rochdale. She is definite on the arrival year in Canada.

Ron and I thought he might be Slavic or Italian at first, but she thinks he is English. Ron is the Masonic expert btw......and live-in cook, grin. Dorothy Kew thought it might be a football club, but I don't think so. "Fraternal Order" comes to mind and I cannot find anything.

Any help would be most appreciated. I will tell Dorothy Kew I put this out here as she is a member and friend. If I messed this up, hope Doug is around to sort it out...never posted a picture before.

Thanks Doug...my thoughts too. We will see what the UK crew think in the morning. This group is a big one northwest of me and I will put the link out.

They cover the area where my UEL Swackhamers are buried....Halton County, Sue. Hey, I met the one living Swackhamer who still lives on part of the original farm!! Fascinating!!
