What Does this Say?

This is written in the margin of the baptism of Harry West (s/o John & Louisa) at
St Mary Magdelene, Bermondsey 10/8/1883.
Any ideas - I will not post what I think, I would prefer to see what others make of it.
Thanks.

Thank you -I had the St Andrews and probably Ch = Church but it was the mission bit that I could not fathom.
Thank you:)

Looking at the date I am wondering why the double ess is not written the usual way (one long wavy stroke and a regular S).......I really need to draw it. As my maiden name is Bowness, I am very used to that. Is it because it is in the middle?

I see "St. Andrews, with a word I am not familiar with, then O.L." Do they use Mission instead of Church in the UK?? Not common over here.

From The Illustrated London News No. 2257 Vol LXXXI Saturday August 5 1882 page 147.
'The Bishop of Rochester on Thursday week laid the foundation-stone of the St Andrews Mission Church, Abbey Street, Bermondsey in the presence of a large assemblage, including the clergy of the district.'

Definition of MISSION CHURCH. : a church that is not locally self-supporting but that depends at least partially upon the support of mission funds from the larger religious organization that established it.
Mission church - Merriam-Webster.com

Another handle on 'Mission'.

I think by the 1880's it had become less used, although some still did. I had a quick look through the preceding and following pages and 'ss' is used. consistently.

I have just found this on the lost churches website
Built 1883 -

Yes I think the "Grid Reference" on the web page must have it about right** (even though they won't quite commit themselves:)!) although St Andrew's Parish is clearly shown next to St Mary Magdalene parish on Stanford's 1877 parish map.

I can't see a temporary church or chapel on the 1877 map but I've just been having the same trouble with temporary church in Camberwell; I expect the clergy were attached to St Mary's before St Andrew's was built.
