Can anyone find the family connection?

At last I can get into my site. Just in case there is anything here that can give others a clue I will post the link to Edward Breeze's page. (only because it may be relevant to this thread, otherwise I would not post.)

Well my head hurts from looking at all this again but I've got a suggestion about Mary Ann. I hope this isn't duplicating too much.

I'm not sure if anyone's discovered where she claims to be born in the 1851 Census but given it's not Knighton then>

Sarah James is baptised on 13 September 1788** and then George James is baptised on 27 March 1790. Lo and behold, on 2nd July 1790 Thomas and Mary are back in church baptising Mary and as there are no relevant burials she must have been their unbaptised first born who was part of the family. I think I recall someone suggesting she was illegitimate which may be the case.

Now I get very fidgety when people suggest that a Mary is a Mary Ann but I have a feeling that they must be one and the same.

I'd love to know what that place of birth was on the 1851 census [HO107/1480/841/7].

** not 1787

The church in Knighton is St. Edwards. But at the time we are researching it was known as St. Lawrence. It was rededicated after the partial rebuild in 1877.

I have been trying to answer the question - who is James Davies father? I do not think I have a definite answer but this is what I have found

James and Catherine survived to be on the 1841 census (sadly not until the 1851 to make our lives easier:rolleyes:)
HO107 p1370 bk11 f3 p1 - The Prospect Hay
James states born in county (Breconshire) age 80 b 1761 (so correct with the rounding up)
James dies June qtr 1843 age 78 (Hay 26-252) = born 1765

There is a James Davies bap in Hay on 21/4/1777 s/o William and Elizabeth (nee Earle married 22/6/1768 - Hay) who also baptise Elizabeth 1768, Mary 1769, William 1773, John 1773
I do not think this is 'our James as I do not think he would get his age wrong by 12 years

Another James Davies is bap in Glasbury 16/9/1770 s/o David and Mary (2 possible marriages 1760 Mary Williams or 1761 Mary Thomas), the other children are Thomas 1762, James 1763-1763, Margaret 1765, Samuel 1768, Sarah 1772.

The final James is bap 28/2/1763 at Llanfihangel bryn Pabuan s/o Evan and Gwen who also bap Gwen 1767, Mary 1769
The only marriage that I can find is in Guilsfied Montgomeryshire Mary Godfrey OTP to Evan Davies 22/6/1761
This looks most likely and nearest his yob but is it the right pob?

And not a single Lutchwyne in sight:headbang:

I have not given up on this:-
There is a baptism of Mary Davies at Llanfaredd 10/6/1783, unfortunately the incumbent only names the father - James

Yes, I found that one too. 'James' was that his first name or his surname, who knows.

Well if that is our Mary then it can't be her fathers first name as James Davies was her uncle.

What is it with this family and being buried with people of a different surname.

I have now found the burial for Sarah James:-
There is a Death notice in the Hereford Times 11 February 1854>

"Jan 24, at Knighton, aged 65, Miss Sarah James, deservedly esteemed. The respect due to an old inhabitant was manifested by the closing of the tradesmen's shop windows throughout the town when she was interred. She was sister-in-law to to the late high-sheriff of the county, Edward Breeze, Esq., deceased."
Grave Ref: D28. Knighton Churchyard
Altar tomb Sandstone
THOMAS COOPER. Died 14th May 1807 Aged 49
Also JOYCE wife of THOMAS COOPER. Died 30th June 1826. Aged 73.
Also SARAH daughter of THOMAS & MARY JAMES. Died 25th Jan 1854.Aged 65.

Why would Sarah be buried with the Coopers

Joyce named Sarah as her executor for her will. (I have a copy but blowed if I can read it)

My great grandmother's sister (Agnes) is buried with the husband of her friend (Janet). o_O

Janet and Agnes worked together for most of their lives and Agnes was staying with her when she died. She was just popped into Janet's husband's grave, which was rather handy.... Janet is also buried there. :ghost:

Her brother, Thomas James, died 2 years later and is buried in and Alter tomb net to her's.

The only thing the Coopers have in common (that I have found so far) is that Their name was Cooper and Sarah's father was a cooper by trade
