Think I have found his death notice in the paper. He did ok for a shoemaker.

May 5th, at Prospect, near Hay, aged 89, Mr James Davies, who for many years carried on the business of a most respectable shoemaker in the town of Hay, universally respected.

I see that this morning. Wonder was he there in 1841Prospect House (which I assume is 'The Prospect' where James lived) is still there, now called Chancery House and is a listed building.
