Can anyone find the family connection?

Not a disappointment at all Flook. It helps to (can't think of the word I want) bolster (will have to do), what we have discovered.

Just a shame it doesn't mention James's siblings.

Anyone fancy transcribing it for me ;)

This is a bit off putting Chimp, along with having to scroll sideways to see it all.

Think I have found his death notice in the paper. He did ok for a shoemaker.

Silurian, Cardiff, Merthyr, and Brecon Mercury, and South Wales General Advertiser 18 May 1850

May 5th, at Prospect, near Hay, aged 89, Mr James Davies, who for many years carried on the business of a most respectable shoemaker in the town of Hay, universally respected.

That's interesting. I was looking at the 1835 Pigot's Directory for Hay last evening and couldn't make out which James Davies he was**.

His son James seems to have several entries.

**Actually this doesn't rule out him being the same James Davies who owned the bookshop.

I'm trying to download it on my kindle. May have to wait till I get home. It's taking for ever.

Thanks @Flook

Thanks @Sis

Prospect House (which I assume is 'The Prospect' where James lived) is still there, now called Chancery House and is a listed building.

It also has an 'ice house'.

No Mary but I will say that he was a trusting soul old Richard. Brother James gets 140 quid but has to invest the 140 quid bequeathed to Ann and then let her have the interest from it.
