Is it possible to get death Certificates from 1837 or earlier, I do have church records for the burial? arryboy Sorry just seen the typo in the title.
Just altered the typo for you. Registration of deaths did not start in England and Wales until 1st July 1837 and so you will not find certificates before that date. If you are looking for a cause of death, then there may be a margin note in the parish records, but not necessarily. Or, there may be a note in a newspaper report, especially if it was an accident of some kind, but again, this would be the exception rather than the norm.
Sometimes there may be some helpful information on a tomb stone. Rarely a cause of death but possibly buried with other family members.
Thanks for that, I will check what records I have and go to the church again, the church warden was very good last time I was there and showed me burial plots. I fear that is all I will find now, he died quite young and did not appear to have much money, fairly long journey to the Church, worth it last time hope it will be this time. Thank you both for your help and tips. arryboy (Graham)
