From St Mary the Virgin, Twickenham 27/5/1667

Who did Jo. Bavin marry ????? Lamb (I left the Jo. Franklin Elizab Ride entry as my first thought was Miss Lamb was an Elizabeth, but what is written bears no resemblance to Miss Ride)

Thanks Jan:) - I really could not make anything out of it, I have been trawling through some early registers for days now and I think I am going word blind:nailbiting:

I think this is the first Hester I have come across in any of these registers.

Remember, spelling was not what it is today and so it could just be a variation of Esther. ;)
 
It has surprised me with some of the names that I did not expect to find,
Penelope, Judith, Susan (not Susanna) and Barbara are there, and lots of Marys and Elizabeths too, but none of the more common names from the 1800's - Eliza, Alice, Louisa, Esther etc.
Some of the spelling is wonderful eg Penolipy:)
 
I would have guessed at Betteth or Bellesh- certainly not Helen as Anc transcribed it. 'H' in name above is entirely different.

Same year has an Esther seemingly 'D' dtr of Jo Bavin buried same year.

I have been looking at it for a while and I think I can read ....ester or esten. It definitely is not an "H" at the beginning. It could be .ttester or .ssester. Now I will stare at the first letter for a bit longer and see if anything pops up.
Do we know how he writes his Ds.

I first thought the initial letter to be a sloppy 'B', but having another look it may even be an 'R'.....Rosetta?

Just looked at Philimore's marriage register. it also has 'Hester Lamb'. Either it is correct or a lot of people have same eye problem.

Another thought just occurred to me - could he have stated to write a name, then crossed it out and then written Ester?
 
Thank you all - I 'did' all the Anc Transcriptions first (looking for my Beavis's) and am now going through all the likely parish records to see if
a) I can find any that were mis-transcribed
b) match any other data to those I have a snippet for (looking mainly for Stephens and Benjamins, so should be easy:D)
c) find any other likely variation on the surname, which did not show on the search of the transcribed ones with the surname entered as Beavis (Bavin perhaps - Bavis/Bevis/Beeves etc etc)
