Who lived at this address c1901?

SARAH ROSE ?????, PALMER STREET, ROEBUCK LANE, SALE

No, it's not Lloyd Grossman asking

There is a piece of paper in a soldier's Service Record that has had me completely flummoxed - how could the same man die in 1907 ... then go "Missing In Action" in 1914?
Same Regiment (Cheshires), same dates of transfer (India), same Medals ... different mothers??

Then it clicked - MIS-FILE!
So I know that the bulk of the Record is for a Walter CLARKE. And he is sorted.
But WHO IS THE MYSTERY MAN?
Before I just move him to the "Unknowns" List, I hoped that someone might be able to find the surname. Mother SARAH ROSE; brother ARTHUR.

That's all I've got - no age, no date of birth. He joined the Cheshires around 1899 - and died (in Madras, India) from an "abscess of the liver" on 11 October 1907.

Can anyone solve the mystery?

Sarah was not at Palmer St in 1901 but I found her with son Arthur, 22, at Hyde Grove. RG13; Piece: 3324; Folio: 152; Page: 15
Her date of birth 1847 at Maxstoke Warwickshire . This led to
RG12; Piece: 3160; Folio: 16; Page: 26; at Stretford
Sarah, Arthur,13 and Joseph H age 10. So this must be your man!

Ah... so ROSE was the surname.

There is a tree at Ancestry which has Sarah dying 1908 at Hyde Grove and descendants of Arthur but no further information for Joseph

THANK YOU! I never even considered that ROSE was the surname (duh).
The soldier in question wouldn't be Joseph - too young. He was already serving (S African medals) in 1901. He must be an older brother.

Apologies to Londoner - I have now read your message properly, and realise that Joseph was 10 in 1891 ... so YES, the soldier is probably JOSEPH ROSE.

Sarah was calling herself Davies in 1881 I didn't make a note of the ref as it was lunchtime and not really relevant to your initial request. But curious!
