Yes, he was a witness to the marriage of Thomas CRANSHAW and Betty HOLT on 10 April 1792 at St. Mary's Prestwich, Lancashire.

Thank you all. It was late last night (well in the early hours of this morning, actually) that I found it and just couldn't make it out and needed to get to bed.

For some reason I thought it was some sort of female name, but blowed if I could work out what.

There was an Amodeus Holt who was baptised in 1763 in Presby Church-NC, BURY, LANCASHIRE. Maybe the same one as was witness.

Stuck the name in FMP and got a page and a half of hits all Prestwich

Trying to see if/how he is related to Betty Holt whose marriage he witnessed. Too many Betty Holt's though - I am going cross eyed.

If anyone fancies having a go, I would be grateful.

I have tried, using the bap that Chimp found, which gives father as Johnathon, working on the idea Betty could be a sister I looked for a bap for her with father Johnathon but found nothing.
I did find a Thomas bap 16/1/1761 with parents Johnathon and Ann though.

There are other baps for Betty Holt (in both Bury and Prestwich), do you have any children's names which might give a clue?

Only just found the marriage in 1792 between Thomas Cranshaw and Betty Holt.

Baptisms of children that are probably theirs (all in Prestwich) are:-

There was a Betty Holt baptised in the Presy Church - NC, Bury, Lancs on 1st Jan 1774 (born 26 Dec 1773) - parents were William and Alice.

Maybe Betty and Amadeus were cousins?
