2 Photo Images- taken years apart- Is it the SAME WOMAN?

about a years ago, my elderly mother gave me a box of family photos. Originally she meant for me to have them upon her death. Thankfully I talked her into letting me see them now- well she is still here- so that we could share them and memories together. There were many photographs of my Great Grandparents and of Great Aunts and Uncles and their families- which my mother was able to ID for me.
in the box- I found a envelope with 2 tin type plates- one of a woman and one of a small boy. I believe them to be of my Great Great Grandmother and her son- my Great Grandfather. but no way of knowing for sure.
looking at the attached photos- what do you think is it the same woman- I do know 100% the old woman is my Gr Great Grandmother- that is my Grandfather
sitting in her lap.

She looks a bit old to be the mother of the child, could she be his grandmother, that would account for the resemblance between the two women.

From the photos I would say there is a possibility they are the same woman -- but I'm hopeless with identifying photos. There does not appear to me to be a similarity in the eyes.

Is it the light- or has the older woman got lighter eyes? so, Mother & perhaps daughter?
Is the child ChilliBeans GrandFather sitting with his G'Mother?+ ChillyBeans Gt,G'Mother -the younger woman may be her daughter/Dtr-in-law or even a sister from earlier years.
 
The hair-line and chin looks the same but the nose on the older woman looks more pointed, unless it's the angle it's been taken at. Plus the eyebrows on the older woman look more thick and bushier.
Perhaps as Wendy says they could be sisters?
 
I always try to get the photos so the face is the same size and look at them side by side. It makes it a lot easier to spot any difference. Also try to see them as the same colour - both black & white or both sepia and with the same contrast/brightness - that will change the appearance quite a bit.
I have to say that I'm useless at spotting theses things normally, that's why I developed the above to try and make it easier.

yes- I tried to re-size the photos- but it becomes distorted and blurring. I will try the same color. thanks.

Also, try flipping the image in 'Paint' so that you are viewing a mirror image - that also makes it easier to spot any differences.

There is a very strong facial resemblance between the two - if not the same person, then indeed a close relative, as suggested above.
