John Morgan

Good evening all,

I have come across an article in the Cardiff and Merthyr Guardian about the suicide of John Morgan, resident of Eardisland, Herefordshire aged 93. The article is dated July 1847.
I am unable to find him on the 1841 census to find his abode.
Could any of you kind souls assist?

Regards, Andrew.

There is one in Earthampton, Shobdon - which is quite near to Eardisland
HO107 piece426 book22 folio13 page4

John Morgan b1756 Herefordshire age 85 (ages rounded down)
Elizabeth Morgan b1771 Herefordshire
William Morgan b1811
Richard Morgan b1816
+ 2 others not Morgan

Choice of two, that I can see.

An 86 year old Agricultural Labourer in Kington, Herefordshire (HO107/423/7/7/3) in the same household as a Davies family.

An 85 year old Agricultural Labourer in Earthampton? Shobden, Leominster (HO107/426/22/13/4) with other members of a Morgan Family.

The Article is also in the Illustrated London News - under a section relating to Ireland. The first chap I listed, looks as though he was born in Ireland, so a good chance he is the one. (but then that may just be my wishful thinking. There are lots of articles and one mentions a wife and a son - also a servant)

Super, thank you. I think the location may be Easthampton. I live about 5 miles away and Eardisland is the village I grew up in. What were the other names on the census? I think a servant was mentioned in the article.
