Ye --- -?- Clifton was buried ye 6th day of April 1620

Thanks

Thanks Jan - I guessed at George but couldn't get it to work, never thought of Jeorge:rolleyes:, makes sense when it is spelled out to you:oops:.
Any thoughts on Mrs Clifton? I can make out nothing that looks like a name:(

It is 'John Clifton the son of Laurence Clifton & [I think] Edee his wife was
Baptized the 26th March 1620
The sayd John Clifton was buried the 6th day of April 1620'

I agree with Burt that the child's name is John, but the wife's name is tricky. Are there any other capital 'E's on the page to compare with - though if it's not that, I can't think of a name that it could be.

Another approach would be to look for other children of Laurence to see if the wife's name is any clearer there.

Thank you all - a split decision between Jeorge and John (I so wanted it to be George;)).
I have still not found any other children of Laurence to get a better shot at his wife's name (I do like Esder/Esther though). So for now will make a note of all the suggestions and keep on looking:reading:.

Thank you Ann, Edee it is:)

At present I am ploughing through all Northants births 1532-1812, Clif*
Trying to put together families, which might unlock the never ending mystery of George Clifton/Clifford supposedly born in Tingewick Bucks (nothing ever found)
c1754. Tingewick abuts 3 counties - Bucks, Oxon and Northants. Nothing found in Oxon (well nothing that I can prove - some have him from Stow on the Wold, Gloucestershire - but again nothing proved). His first wife came from Brackley so there is a tentative link to Northants. Once I have the families I will then go to the PR's to see if George has been mistranscribed, or there and not transcribed.:sceptical: (some of the handwriting has to be seen to be believed:eek:)
