While looking at the Sticklands I found three of the brothers married to Miss Smith ... three different Miss Smiths, of course ... the first two being sisters, the third not obviously related (but haven't delved far)

The third of the brothers was Louis Aubrey, who it seems made a sad end in 1942 in Piddletrenthide. I don't have a sub to British Newspapers, but saw enough to realise he was found shot dead in a ditch (or a field), that his best friend the baker was accused of his murder (and of intimately knowing his wife!), and the baker's housekeeper was charged as an accessory. It seems it was not a murder, but an accident, but the baker panicked and disposed of the body . At least that is what the court decided ... Perhaps so

I would like a more detailed read, if it is not too much of an imposition ...

I spent part of my childhood living with Louis' younger sister, maiden name Laura. She told me that he died in the war. I always took it that she meant in the Great War as she showed me a picture of him in uniform. It was only in recent years that I found out the sad truth.

This was my great uncle, my great grandfather found his body. He was indeed having an affair with the bakers wife. He is buried in the local churchyard with my great great grandfather

Louis was my great uncle married to my great aunt Muriel Smith. I have photos of Louis and Muriel. I found this thread while trying to find out a little more about him. The family story is that he was a game keeper and accidentally shot himself.
