If a child is adopted shortly after birth, early 1960's , does the maternal parent have to register the child prior to the adoptive parents, if so are these records held off record? Secondly, if that child has a name change or moves to another part of the country do any future electoral roles include the original district/country of birth or the area to where the child was adopted to.

Well my half brother was adopted out. He was registered by the hospital where my mother had him. His birth name, Mother's maiden name, quarter and district are on FreeBMD. I don't think any information after adoption is available, you can only access this through an professional intermediary. Although, I have seen posts on 'faceache' asking for information about adopted children. I have my half brothers birth certificate but even on that it doesn't say that he was adopted or had a name change, even though both happened.
As for the electoral rolls, would they need to know where you were born? All they really care about is where you are living now (I could be wrong) I also don't think they are privy to information such as adoption.

From reading what happens here, the child is registered at birth with mothers name, place of birth etc. When the child is adopted an amended registration is issued with the date of birth, his new parents names and his new name, place of birth can be as it was originally or the parents can choose to have the place of their residence at the time. The original registration is sealed and can never be revealed unless under extreme circumstances with a court order. This is for the privacy of the birth mother.

I have no idea. Mum was with him at the hospital for a few weeks, her family wouldn't allow her home. The nurses said she could stop there and help them with the other baby's and help on the ward till the adoption took place. Mum never knew the people who adopted him. They did contact us once when he was to be married to find out if his future wife was any relation to us. The adoptive mother wouldn't tell mum their surname but did say they had swapped his first names. As in (Names changed) if he were registered David Mark he had become Mark David. She did say that he didn't want any contact with us. That broke mum's heart.
I assume the new certificate of my half brother isn't on freebmd, but without knowing his new name there is no way of telling. His original is and that's where I got a copy.

So, in doing it that way, is the birth mother anonymous? Which makes sense as it gives her, her privacy.

The certificate I saw was the adopted one, which names the adopted parents only. No way of finding any more unless he applies to go through a special intermediary I think.
I think it would be the same as freebmd.

My mum's cousin was officially adopted (through the juvenile court) by her mother and husband (who was not the father). I have a copy of her adoption order. She does not appear on the Birth Index under her new surname, so I would think that applies to anyone that is officially adopted.

I’m not sure what appears on Australian bdm’s as births are locked for 100 years. So the original could appear but I’m not sure. Perhaps that’s why some children who haven’t been told they are adopted ‘accidently’ come across birth certificates when snooping in Mums papers.
