Help with occupation please

Could it be Corn Porter - did he work in a dock?
Corn Porter: this occupation title usually refers to someone who worked at a dock. They unloaded corn from ships and moved it into storage, and vice versa.

Do you have the person on a census to compare?

That's the problem - I am trying to find him, or rather trying to confirm his daughter's birth, whose marriage certificate it is from - that's if she has told the truth.

She was Mary Ann Dunnage who married John Wilson on 9 Nov 1857 at St John the Evangelist, Lambeth (image on Ancestry). Her father is given as John Dunnage along with the occupation that I cannot read.

Throughout the census (1851 to 1901), her year and place of birth change.

The year is not so much of a problem - between 1826 and 1830. The birth place is another matter:-

1851 Oxfordshire
1861 Bradwell, Middlesex
1871 Southwark
1881 Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire
1891 Lambeth
1901 Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire

I've been going through the 1841 census but think I'm getting confused.

I did consider that she died and John married again, but all the children from the census (plus a few that were born and died between) I can find on the GRO as Wilson, mmn Dunnage. The eldest (John) was actually born before she married and is listed on the GRO as John Dunnage born 1846 Lambeth.

Thanks for taking the time to read this - and any thoughts/help would be much appreciated.

If by chance whe wwas the lass Baptised at Bishops Stortford,

Name: Mary Dunnage
Gender: Female
Baptised 31 Aug 1828 Saint Michaels,Bishops Stortford,Hertford,England
Father: Michael Dunnage
Mother: Ann
FHL Film Number:991308

Perhaps the father's name of John was confused with her Husbands name. I've had many similar errors on marriage records.

I did wonder that myself, Wendy. Have made a note of all the baptisms to Michael and Ann (six that I can find) and am trying to follow up on them now. There doesn't appear to be a Mary Ann born with a father John anywhere that I can see.
