Good evening everyone,

I am looking for the death of Francis Minton Pudge, b January 1810 in Bishops Frome, Herefordshire. He died between 1844 (The conception of his youngest daughter Amelia Sarah) and the 1851 census, (his wife shown as widow), The family were living at Yarkhill and Newtown (both in Herefordshire) during this time frame. I have tried GRO, The Genealogist, Ancestry, BNA and Free BMD all with no luck.

Kindest Regards, Andrew.

Still looking,..but.. could it be that he & wife had separated or he took a walk & she claims widowhood for respectability?

p.s. haveyou any marriages for the children to see who / how father is mentioned?

Me neither. He just disappears!
He was in Hereford gaol for debts in 1839 but that's the only mention I could find.

I wonder if maybe he was transported? or as Ma D says maybe he took a walk?. The only other things I can think of are - did he join the Army or Navy?
could he have moved to a totally new area perhaps for work, or as is usually the case his name has been mistranscribed.

The GRO has the name as Pudney, but the age is OK.
Why would he have been in Staines though?

I cannot find a Francis Pudney (or Pudgey) on the 1841 that fits.

Re post 9, his burial record on 19 April 1845 at Sunbury St Mary shows him as Francis PUDNEY, Green Street, aged 35.

There is mention in the Hereford Times dated 12 August 1843 to the effect that the cottages plus land at Green Lane in Yarkill, one of which was occupied by Francis PUDGE were going to be sold by auction on 17 August. But after this mention, nothing.
