I'm working on this part of the family at the moment and have gotten back to a certain point and run into a brick wall (thank goodness for bandages :D)

Robert Strachan was born 24th August 1792 Montrose Angus (Forfashire)
He married Sarah Lyall 16th May 1815 Montrose Angus
He died 1839??
His occupation was Shipbuilder.

I have potential parents as James Strachan b. 1769? and Mary Cobb born 1757?

I also have names further that go further back but unsure how correct they are and don't want to overwhelm with too much detail all at once :)

Trying to confirm Robert's parents and his death date and then potentially go back from there.

If this is from Scotlands People, it would be best to check with them what is permissible.

However, the snip might be okay as a "thumbnail" rather than a full copy as in line with this National Archives statement:

The images may be displayed on a website, provided that they are protected from download at high resolution. You can do this by watermarking, or by keeping the resolution to a level whereby the documents are legible for information and research, but are not of sufficient quality for commercial publication (usually 72dpi).

However, do please check with Scotlands People - or post the transcribed details here so that those who choose to do so can use credits to view. :)
 
So I'll share what I found without posting an image.

James Strachan born 2nd April 1769. His father was Robert, which I hopefully won't get confused with the other Robert mentioned above.
Also found a marriage for James and his wife M
 
So I've been playing detective on Scotlands People (and now out of credits for the foreseeable future) and think I may have connected a few dots in the Strachan family. I'll share and if anyone can see what I see then great, otherwise please any tips or hints would be appreciated :)

All events seemed to take place in Montrose, Angus Scotland hence the connections

I have Robert's birth, marriage and death year worked out above and his wife Sarah Lyall.

Robert's father is James and he was born 2/4/1769 and married Mary Cobb 20/11/1791. James died 12/6/1810.

Now James' father was Robert and he was born 27/12/1738. He married Katharine Rodger 27/10/1760, no death date as yet.

Next generation is also Robert, no birth date, married a Anne Towns, his death unknown.

As I said all this based on the Montrose connection. Which could mean nothing and I've gone barking up the wrong tree again. Plus I ran out of credits part way through so going off search results.

Any thoughts?

There is a marriage that took place in Marykirk, Kingcardineshire in 1723 between a Robert STRACHAN and an Anna TOWNS. The Banns are dated 23rd September, which is probably the last date on which they were read,

Although in a different county, Marykirk is just 6 and a half miles from Montrose, so it looks like they could be the ones.

I have found a couple of possibilities:

Burial at Kinneff & Catterline, Kincardineshire on 4th December 1800
Burial at Dundee, Forfarshire on 22nd October 1811.

Kinneff is 16 miles from Montrose; Dundee is 30 miles.

A strong possibility for this would be Robert STRACHAN who was baptised on 6th February 1698 at Montrose, making him about 25 when he married. The record very usefully names his parents as Robert (yes, another one!) STRACHAN and Elizabeth née WISHART

There might be some clues in the original records, such as age, which are not recorded on the transcripts that I have seen. I will check on Scotlands People as I have a few credits going spare. ;)
