Sarah Davies born 1856 Llanfihangel, Montgomeryshire, Died 1928 Llangollen, Denbighshire. Married Evan Williams 1 Mar 1873 Llanfihangel, Montgomeryshire, Sarah was 17 and Evan 37.

They had 6 Children Evan(1875), John(1876), Mary(1879) all 3 born in Llanfihangel, Montgomeryshire. In the 1881 Census they are now living in Chirk, Denbighshire. The next 3 children were all born in Chirk, Jane(1882), Elizabeth(1885) and Catherine Anne(1883 or 1888). 1891 Census they are living in Llangollen, Denbighshire.

Some online Trees have John and Catherine Anne arriving in the USA 1908, With John dying 1922 Montclair, Essex, New Jersey, USA, and Catherine 1942 New York City, New York, USA. I cannot verify this as I don’t have access to the records.

Now I may be missing the obvious but I cannot find a birth for Catherine Anne nor can I find the family in the 1901 Census any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, WRL. I'm a little short on time, so please forgive if these are only hints right now...
New Jersey BMD's in 20th Century is tough. Findagrave or newspapers might give help.
New York City is a little better. The Italian Genealogy site has an index database with info on how to order the certs. I have a link, but haven't been there lately, so don't remember navigation help.

The New York Times has an archive. Select a date range. Some are free, the rest are available for a nominal cost.

Gotta go. Good luck! :)

Bear with me I am not so good at these things but could your Sarah Williams (Davies) be on the 1911 census Class: RG14; Piece: 34245; Schedule Number: 192 This Sarah Williams is a widow
Living next to her (Preceding page) is a Jane Roberts could she be the married daughter.

Would the Catherine Jane Williams born 1883 JFM Llanelly be a possibility? Llanelly is not that far from Chirk.

Yes that is a good possibility, I have just gone over my 14 year notes for this family and realised I have recorded the Registration District (Chirk) as the place of birth rather than the actual location

If your Catherine married Charles Jones on 9th March 1912 according to New York, New York City Marriage Records, 1829-1940 (Transcript ) Family Search, that gives Catherines parents as Evan Williams and Sarah Davies. Then looking at the 1920 census for them it gives year of immigration as 1908

The death of Caroline Ann Jones in New York is found on FS, however this Caroline Ann Jones, spouse Charles died 23rd October 1942, buried Mt Hope Cemetery Westchester Co, New York. Died Manhattan. Her DoB 24 Jan 1888. However it says that her father was John Williams and mother Sarah Jones. So whether it is your Caroline with confused information or is another altogether.......unfortunately the record is not available to view.

1891 census has Catherine Ann Williams with father Evan mother Sarah etc age 3 born 1888, born Corwen
Freebmd has her registration Catherine Ann Williams March qtr 1888 Corwen Denbighshire 11b 344. She must have been hiding from you. Although I can’t see it on FreeReg.

As to the 1901. Could Catherine be the Catherine A Williams age 13 born 1888 Llangollen, Denbighshire living with Robert Thomas 51, ship agent and family at Salisbury Road, Cressington Park, Garston, Lancashire. Also living in the house is an Ann Davies 44 sister in law. Catherine is a domestic servant.

Ah ha. In 1891 the family are living in Llangollen, as she was only 13 in 1901 perhaps she thought it was where she was born. I think this may be her.

Is it Catherine Anne or Catherine Jane?
A Catherine Jane arrived Ellis Island 1908 on the Arabic last place of residence was Ebenezer Wales (no idea where that is )
Sue It is Catherine Ann but all I could find around that area was Catherine Jane but there is a big difference between 1883 and 1888 but WelchRegLost was not sure which year.

There is also a marriage record on Family Search (New York City Marriage Records, 1829-1940) no image available, that gives the marriage of John Williams to Sarah Aldred. Johns parents are given as Evan Williams and Sarah Davies. This was on 19 Oct 1910. So assuming this is right, John had arrived in the US before 1910

The reason for the uncertainty about the year the online trees have 24 Jan 1883 which I am assuming come from US records, the 1888 comes from the 1891 census which I am more inclined to believe..

I will read the rest of the posts later today when I am back from my hospital appointment.

So death record has 24 Jan 1888 and the online trees have 24 Jan 1883 I smell someone misreading the last 8 as a 3 and then lots of lazy researchers just copying that error.
