Henry Adie Married Elizabeth Price Cantrill in Aston Warwickshire in 1877.

Aston is where they registered their first child, Lilly Elizabeth Adie, in 1879.

The family had moved to 4, Station Road, Castle Church, Stafford by 1881.

Henry and Elizabeth had another daughter, Minnie Emily Adie, born 14th February 1881.

1881 census
4, Station Road, Castle Church, Stafford
RG11, Piece - 2688, Folio - 5, Page - 1

Henry is a Railway foreman (loco dept), b. 1857 Foleshill, Warwickshire
Elizabeth b. 1855 says she was born in Bucknell, Staffordshire.

Now I'm not sure that Elizabeth was born in Staffordshire, although there is a Bucknell there. On the 1891, 1901 censuses the family are living at 11, Egbert Place, St Pancras, London. On both of these censuses she says she was born in Bucknell, Shropshire.

In 1871 there is an Elizabeth Cantrell in the household of Richmond Edwards living at Skyborry, Llanfair Waterdine, Knighton (about 7 miles from Bucknell), she is a nurse born in Salop (Shropshire)

Where did this woman come from ?

Was she born Elizabeth Price? if so how did she gain the name Cantrill / Cantrell

Help

On the 1861 census there is an Elizabeth Price born 1855 Bucknell
RG09/4234/66/6
d/o Richard and Elizabeth Price
She fits the bill, so now to find out where the Cantrell bit comes from

Did she say Bucknell Staffordshire or just say Bucknell and the enumerator assumed it to be Staffordshire as he was probably aware of that Bucknell but not the one in Shropshire?

I was wondering that because she was pretty constant with Bucknell shropshire from then on.

oooh I've just found a marriage for a Jane Price Cantril in Bucknell in 1858, she married a Widower, John Whitefoot. Jane was a spinster, her father being John Price Cantril a labourer.

I wonder if Elizabeth Price Cantril / Cantrill / Cantrell could be Jane's daughter before marriage.

not sure if this helps at all cos the Price is spelt differently Pryce from familysearch charles is her son

Wrong one I'm afraid @Sandiep Elizabeth had married Henry Adie in 1877. They lived in St. Pancras till Henry's death in 1908. Elizabeth then married Thomas Hall on 11th February 1911 but it was a short marriage as she died on 22nd of the same month and was buried with Henry.

I don't know where I am going with this but
John Price married Elizabeth Jordan Sept qtr 1851 Knighton 26 - 539
On the 1861 census there are 2 girls, Elizabeth b1855 and Emilia (Emily in 1871) b1857
The family in 1871 RG10/5595/89/9 (Elizabeth is missing)
2 more children John b1864 and Ann b1869

GRO births Knighton reg district

Elizabeth Price mmn Jordan June qtr 1854 11b 172
No birth found for Emily/ Emilia Price but
Emily Cantrel mmn Jorden March qtr 1857 11b 163
then
John William Cantrell mmn Jordon Sept qtr 1863 11b 169
Ann Eliza Cantrell mmn Jorden Dec qtr 1868 11b 156

So we have the right family, but why they are registering the children as Cantrell, but using Price on the census,
we still have to find out

Is this lady any where near? I see Bucknell come under Knighton district.
PRICE, ELIZABETH x LUCAS
GRO Reference: 1855 D Quarter in KNIGHTON Volume 11B Page 153

I haven't found a marriage for Richard Price & Elizabeth Lucas tho'.
edit
A Samuel Price wed Elizabeth Lucas in Knighton -1840 & that
is probably no use at all ;)

@Chimp do you still have access to FMP
the marriage is on there, and the baptisms of the children.
Elizabeth and John as Price
Emily as Cantrel and Anne as Ann Maria as Price or Cantrell

I think that one is a read herring Wendy, this area has more red herring's than a smoke-house full of kippers.

Yes I renewed my sub yesterday.

I will take a look at it in the morning.

Strange that the name Jordan should come up. Henry and Elizabeth's daughter Minnie married a Jordan. He was killed in WW1.

I will also take a look at that census in the morning, I'm usually up around 4'ish so will have plenty of time before going to work.

Minnie's husband
https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/593624/john-ernest-jordan/

They had a daughter, Nesta Lily Beatrice, on 4th Feb 1917, she died on 4th November 1919. Minnie never remarried and adopted a boy in 1930.

He lives in my town and contacted me the other day to find out about Minnie's family. He said that he knows his birth family but they have never wanted anything to do with him.

Trying to help the old gent out.

Something else for your early morning search
There is another child on the 1881 Fanny
Birth reg Fanny Cantrel mmn Jorden 1873 June qtr Knighton 11b 165
6/4/1896 Fanny Cantrel married Charles Price Minton in Bucknell and one of the witnesses was Minnie Adie

Night night!

this is from the family I saw on familysearch because john Price /Cantrill are the parents of Fanny Cantrill who married Charles Price Minton
the names are getting more confusing all time .....

Great find @MollyMay He did say that Minnie met her future husband while visiting family in Bucknell. Now Minnie was born in St. Pancras, I did wonder how she had family in Bucknell.

Night night

John Cantrell died 1905 June qtr Knighton 11b 100, and the 1911 census that @Sandiep found is the widowed Elizabeth with her daughter Fanny and husband Charles Price Minton:)

Sorry @Sandiep I was getting in a muddle last night, you were on about Elizabeth Cantrell nee Jordan not her daughter Elizabeth Price Cantrell.

Now to try and put this into some kind of order.
