Fathers profession - Commercial Traveller.

He was baptised 1st October 1902, still living at the same address, his father's profession on the baptism is:-

What is this profession?

Also, they must have forgotten when he was born as the date for birth on the baptism register reads:-

19-IX-1902

I can't seem to find a marriage for F Ruff and Minnie Stevenson, neither can I find them on the 1911 census.

Anyone?

So in the matter of 18 days he went from being a Commercial Traveller to being a Builder.

I cannot find them in 1911, and tried the baptismal address for 1901, and they were not there then:(.

As for the change of occupationo_O

I assume Fred b1902 was the RN Sailor on the 1921?

Have you seen the National Schools Admissions Register on FMP
Church Pulverbatch CofE School - Shropshire in 1907?
There is an entry for Frederick Ruff dob 12/8/1902 (so close to 12/9/1902)
Parent M Ruff.

Looks like he was the son of Matthew and Mary Ruff nee Roberts who were married in 1887 in Church Stretton, Shropshire.

The address given on admission looks like Ouhack.

This family can be found living at Outrack, Church Pulverbatch, Shropshire in 1911, so not him.

Another one bites the dust

I have tried everything to find Fred Ruff snr or Minnie Stev[ph]enson in 1901 and came up with another blank:headbang:

Don't worry I've been searching for about 2 weeks and have had the same results as you.

I've just noticed that I made a mistake in my original post. I said that his father was a Commercial Traveller on Fredericks BC, he was in fact a Commercial Clerk.

Is Fredericks father also Fred. Or is that just a guess?
There is a FRITZ Ruff born Scotland and residing at Drayton Park, Islington in 1881. He is an "Insurance Clerk" boarding with Mary Carre born Guernsey. Anglising Fritz often is Fred. We have one in the family.
Looking further Fritz married Mary Ann Gretty in Islington in 1883. In 1898 the death of A Mary Ann Ruff age 41 at Pancras Sept qtr.
What if Fred and Minnie just didn't marry?
Fritz Andreas Ruff died in Scotland in 1928.

1903 Scotland Directory has Fritz Andreas Ruff as the manager for Scotland of National Provident Institution for Mutual Life Assurance 65 Benfield Street 12 Bute Mansions Hillhead.
Certainly worth maybe a look as you cant find your Fred anywhere else.

On Fredericks birth cert his father is just F Ruff, I'll do a snip.

On his baptism his father is frederick

Just being a bit pedantic here, but does 'formerly' (here) mean 'formerly married' or do they mean 'nee', (born)?

I have no idea.

Just looked at all the birth certificates that I have 'Formerly' is written on all the mother's names denoting the mother's maiden name.

Fritz Andreas Ruff died in Scotland in 1928.
Fritz has a new wife, Lucy, by 1901 and is back in Govan, Scotland.

You are probably right, maybe they didn't marry.

I have seen an advert for 233, Queen's Road, Dalston, advertising apartments to rent, one stipulation, no children. So maybe the F. Ruff living there was just passing through.
