The jacket looks much like the one my dad had with his 'demob' suit, so yes late 40's but as they wore clothes until they didn't fit or were too shabby, then 50's is a real possibility

Googled 1940's suits and found this - look at the shape of the lapels, and the pocket flaps. So I think 40's/50's is a pretty good shout

This. On first glance the picture reminded me of old photos of my father. His suits were kept carefully pressed and worn for a good many years. In all honesty, I don't remember him buying a new one, not even for my wedding.
