If you look at the photos in my media, there is one of my Dad entitled, “Scouting Radio Ham”. Dad joined the Wolf Cubs in 1934, moved on to the Scouts, then the Rover Scouts, became a Scout Leader, District Commissioner and eventually Assistant County Commissioner.
Scouts began with 20 boys and an experimental camp held in August 1907 on Brownsea Island, Dorset. Robert Baden-Powell, the camp’s organiser and Scouts’ founder, decided that his training and methods appealed to young people and really worked.
But it was not until today, 2nd February 1914 that the very first Wolf Cub Pack was formed in England in Robertsbridge, Sussex. Although not formally founded for another couple of years, the Cubs had 6,000 members by the end of that year!
