BOWATER , Dudley

Thanks Janet, they sound right, I will follow those up. I'm still grinning
over your Parry find x

Hi
I'm now looking at the other Mary Bowater baptised at St Nicholas, Leicester in 1802 and was wondering if the baby might have died soon after birth and Mary Ann given the same name the following year? Crazycat lady found a note on the baptism b. eodemdie, which I believe means born the same day and so maybe she wasnt expected to live. However, I have not been able to find details of a death or burial. Any help would be appreciated
Lesley

That's strange, Eve, as Ancestry Select Births & Christenings show Mary BOWATER daughter of William & Susanna born on 8 February 1802 but not baptised until 23 March 1802 at St Nicholas. Haven't managed to find a burial for Mary so far though.

Can't remember if you have already found this Eve, but James PARSONS married Rebecca BOWATER at St Albans on 31 October 1827 and one of the witnesses was the ubiquitous Jarvis OSBORN - he seems to turn up a lot doesn't he!

Janet

Thanks Janet, That's odd about those other dates for the christening.
Yes, Molly May found the marriage earlier, but I appreciate the heads up.
Jarvis Osborn is quite a good name to have - not many of those !

I have BOWATER family residing around Northamptonshire c1800 to c1830
From what I already know William &Susanna(h)(nee RAYSON) had the following children : -
John. b.1801. bapt. Bulwick, Northants
Byzantha b.1807. bapt. Kings Cliffe, Northants
William. b. 1808. bapt. kings Cliffe, Northants
Jane. b. 1810. bapt. Kings Cliffe, Northants
Osias R. b. 1815. bapt. Glamorgan
And possibly
Mary Ann b. 1803. bapt St Nicholas, Leicester

However, someone has thrown into the mix
Susannah 1812. bapt. St Thomas, Dudley
Elizabeth 1809. bapt. St Thomas, Dudley
Susanna J 1807. bapt. St Thomas, Dudley. (Unlikely - see Byzantha above)
All born to a William & Susanna BOWATER
Having got lost in and around "Dudley" in the early 1800's I have not been able to find another William & Susanna to give them away to !
I wonder if anyone can help find them?

Many thanks

just found this stream ...

I am a descendant of Biszancher Bowater..
I have a fair bit of collated stuff from my research if anyone is still interested.
Anquetils - were from Ducey , France. Robert's father - Jean Baptiste Marie Anquetil - fled the Revolution and ended up in London .
Biszancher's grand daughter (my Nan) was also called Biszancher , tho she hated it , and used the name Blanche insted.

Hi Richard, how lovely. I think You are the first person from our Bowater family I have heard from directly. I’m very fond of Byzantha (With all the various spellings!) as she has such an exotic name I started looking at the Anquetil family but hadn’t got very far and the Guernsey connection slowed me down as well. I would love to know more. I have a fair bit of information on a the Bowater families if you are interested, but Finding the origins of William Bowater father of Byzantha and my 3XGtGrandfather John has proved more problematic. I wonder if you have any Pointers as to his place of origin ?
Good to hear from you cousin

Hi Richard,
Is your offer of information on the Anquetil family still open? I have messaged you on Ancestry today as there seems to be some extremely dodgy information in trees on there re Robert Francis & Byzantha but which appear to be duplicated several times!
I would appreciate your help.

OK - I am going to claim the Mary Ann b. 1803. bapt St Nicholas, Leicester
She pops up on the 1861 census as Mary Ann Stanbridge, living with her widowed cousin Jarvis Osborn and his children and then subsequently marries him ! in St Albans abbey in 1867 ( father given as William Bowater). (Ancestry have this in Select marriages 1578-1973 which has an addition of "Mary Ann Bowater" but don't know why this should have been added on ?

In 1851 there is a Mary Ann Stanbridge (widowed) right age, living in Higham Court, Gloucester as a servant b. Leicester - so could be her.

But I can't find a marriage for her to a Stanbridge. ??
Having read this again , I realise that l have the ubiquitous Jarvis Osborn in my tree and Mary Bowater. His first wife was Mary Smith, the sister of my 4xg grandfather Samuel. So a sort of step relation to the family in question.

Hi..sorry - just revisited this!
What info do you want about the Anquetils?

Regards Richard
Hi Richard
Nice to hear from you again.
I haven’t re-visited the Anquetil’s for quite some time as they are not my direct ancestors. But nonetheless I think it was the Guernsey aspect that interested me and I could find very little about.
I think You did send me some information on Henry Anquetil a gardener in St Andrew’s. Your ancestor Byzantha was the sister of my 3X Gt Grandfather John Bowater.
I’m not really able to work on my tree just at the moment but I will have to check how further on I am when I get a chance.
Many thanks
Lesley
